The sixth project from Baltimore Hip-Hop artist Nelwayne (as Wayne Collins). Yellow Dog takes us through the life of Collins, from a normal day in the studio to a frustrating night at work. With concepts and lyrics showing us a more "mature, articulate and comprehensive" Collins on issues such as one-night stands, love, lust, family problems, dealing with depression and consequences while reaching for stardom and success. Alongside those themes, other introspective topics such as partying, bar-hopping and other nightlife activities provide closure. Much like previous works, Collins has shown us that he is capable of unifying sounds to fit moods while providing intense emotion and striking lyrics to complete the musical scenery. The sound for Yellow Dog incorporates gritty drum breaks over chopped samples from different genres and sources; merged with TV and movie sound bites, ambient undertones, and turntable experimentation. Some production was handled by Collins but enlists production from several producers including the late J Dilla.
